Brothels & Escort Agencies

So what's the difference between a brothel and an escort agency?

I'm talking about the legal definition before all you wags start your one liners. I would have thought they were the same but apparently they are not.

I ask as I remember this case a few weeks ago in the papers It doesn't say it there but I remember reading that the defence tried to claim this woman was running an escort agency and not a brothel.

As I said I thought they were both the same thing, offering sex for money but obviously not otherwise the defence wouldn't have gone down this road.

Anbody know what the legal difference is?

Since the agency doesn't supply the location for any paid for sexual action between a client and an escort, it couldn't be a brothel. I'm no lawyer, but I thought a brothel was a house where prostitution took place, from initial payment to mattress mamba. An escort agency will be a glorified office, and any "extras" you wish from an escort who is willing to provide them would have to take place at a location of your choosing.

But having never used either service, this is just guesswork.

Without knowing the legal difference, I assume a brothel is premises you visit where a number of girls operate. An escort agency hires out girls who will accompany you to social events (or at least thats the theory) and you can make your own arrangements for other services.
Can I hasten to add I am not speaking from personal experience....lol

An escort agency is a business that facilitates the meetings between customers and escorts. The customer does not visit the agency and any meetings between the customer and escort do not take place on the agency's premises.

A brothel is defined by law as a place where 2 or more prostitutes are plying their trade simultaneously.

Escorts agencies are not illegal, while brothels are.

I've just read thgrough the link that Jaques () posted and at the bottom of the page it says that escort agencies are illegal.

Ther are plenty of brothels and escort agencies advertising themselves which the police choose to ignore so why do they bust some others?
