In response to the current campaign of terror on our country I'm asking the questions:
1, Is it bad to be afraid?
2, Are we weak if we are afraid?
3, Does being afraid make us stronger?
I'm not a virgin so please feel free
DG

You wouldn't be human if you were't a little bit afraid
The only good thing this will do is make people more aware of their immediate surroundings when their out & about instead of playing the passive 'I'm in my own little world ' and ignoring all & sundry
Thats what happened in New York.Instead of going through the same old motions of the daily grind you actually become a little bit more alive and take notice of whats happening around you
I'd suspect not too many people will be dosing off and missing their stop or ending up at the depot/end of the line for quite a while
cheers

Quite right Deuce, fear is an imprtant part of ones survival for the reasons you mentioned. Fear can also be contrued as respect also and not to be confused with weakness.
A man who shows no fear is only internalising it but we all know better. Who wants to die by being blown to bits!? I'm not quaking with fear type scared, just being cautious. In theory, it does make some of us stronger by being more aware.
Lets face it, and to be honest, we've all had it quite good so far when you consider the shit that goes down on a day to day basis in other parts of the world.
The frightening thing is, when you see how these people have lived and the kind of misery they have endured throughout their lives, you know they will think nothing of your loss if they were to inflict this on us.

Re: So is it bad to be afraid?
terrys right and we all react differently;eg hostage situations can be very terrifying too.
Re: So is it bad to be afraid?
There are a million things that can kill you. Terrorism just one...I don't think it;s bad to be 'afraid'..but very dangerous to lose perspective and fall into totally unwarranted and misplaced hysteria...esecially as that's exaclty what the terrorist want and it will, 100% definently, encourage them and lead to further and more frequent attacks.

The old adage 'It will never happen to me'(in respect to all manner of things) that tends to permeate the vast majority of the population will be put right back in its box where it belongs
Anyone that isn't a little bit afraid doesn't care or put more succinctly
'Love anything'
To be complacent or vigilant, that is the question
cheers

Heres a thought!
I'm pickin up this "don't let them change anything" line a lot along with "its what the bombers want us to do".
So the basic idea is the bombers want us all to change our daily lifes and make their currently easy targets hard, ive never known a bomber but boy they must be thick?
Surely the plan for the bomber is to kill as many as possible so plenty of people on trains & buses gawping through empty eyes is giving the bombers just the target they need.
There have been plenty of remarks about the war in 45 and how they couldn't get us to change but my gran tells me countless stories of just how everything changed during the bombing campaigns so to do nothing now is surely daft. To me its like the story about the guy at the end of the street with a gun shooting everyone he sees. The street hears the story and goes along to HAVE a LOOK?
I don't believe in britain we could ever have mass hysteria or people running down the streets screaming "oh my gawd the end is cumin" but I do believe that our wild british spirit will cause us to watch a bomb explode.
Stiff upper lip and all that

That is what I like about some people and maybe loathe too- that pervading cynicism that prevents them being blindly patriotic at the expense of intelligence.
I don't believe we should ever kow tow and bow to terrorist demands. EVER! Not upon pain of death. To do that will give any weedy little runt the power to think they can do the same.
These are the same people who are too spineless to come out and resolve their problems in a civil way.Blowing up people is only going to make you more hated, not revered. Its a bully boy tactic and one thing I hate is a bully. No matter how big they are. You would never get me to see a point when you are blowing up innocent people who have nothing to do with a cause that exists outside of our everyday existence.
