Is it just me, or does anyone find this very interesting? OEJ's posts are reasoned, articulate and concisely-stated, showing a great deal of cerebral activity has gone on before he's posted. Compare this with the inane, repetitive ramblings of both photo-taker and firekind who have the British tabloid mentality of knee-jerk "eye for an eye" reactions.
As someone who was VERY close to being taken out by one of the July 7th bombings, and as someone who also has many muslim friends who are just normal ordinary people who want to get on and live a peaceful life like the rest of us, I find photo-taker and firekind's comments depressing. OEJ made a very good point: Ian Huntley, Michael Ryan, Myra Hindley, etc, were all white British criminals, yet nobody tarred the entire white population with any brush then. Just because muslims are, by in large, a visible minority, it seems that suddenly, it's fair comment to say that every single one of them is a terrorist, when they've done nothing any different to anyone else in the population. over the last few weeks. They're just as likely to be blown up and have the added concern of this backlash against them.
As for the bombers, I have no problem with them being shot if they resist arrest or present a danger to the public, but once they're in custody, I have to agree that a life in Belmarsh is far worse for them so let them rot. By killing them, you've already succombed to the terrorists and changed your way of life, so you may as well hoist up the white flag now.
Apologies for the length of this post.
If found guilty , Firing Squad too Good?
Re: If found guilty , Firing Squad too Good?
Terry's posts have been measured and intelligent, in contrast to the race hate brigade who can barely keep the relish out of the words they are typing when predicting a civil or race war.
The point keeps being made, and is continually ignored by the usual suspects, that we are supposed to be a civilised nation and our responses to atrocities has to be fairminded and just if we are not to do the terrorists' bidding and drop to their level.
One of the arrested suspects yesterday was heard to shout, "I have my rights." He's correct, he does. Even if he was responsible for the attempted bombing he's accused of, and thus showed no consideration for the rights of those he meant to kill, he has rights under our laws. The alternative is that we develop a two-tier legal system, and do part of the recruitment work that the extremists want.

Our resident hang-em-deport-all-Muslims brigade clearly didn't grasp that Muktar Said-Ibrahim was (relatively) quickly identified and apprehended because his own parents contacted the police after seeing the CCTV picture.

To add: This drama has already claimed the life of someone innocent of terrorism. Ok, so he outstayed his visa (Big deal) Plenty of our girls have done this working in America. I agree. He shouldnt have run. it was just a plain old tragedy precipitated by the current tide of fear and paranoia.
Next time it could be a spivvy selling a knocked off tv being confused for a muslim fanatic or plain simply someone who is terrified to die. Some freeze and some just bolt for it.
The way I look at it: Terrorism claimed another life that day the brazilian chap was shot...It won't be long before the witch hunts begin.

That particular element ignore whatever doesn't support their argument, Fred. They complain about censorship on this forum, while calling for draconian action to be taken by the authorities. No sense of the appropriate; just, as you and Boomer suggested, knee-jerk reacting.

Don't know who's winding me up more at the moment: BNP pond life, the Schadenfreude Squad or the NWO-conspiracy-tinfoil-hat brigade. All are having a field-day out there.
It's refreshing to see posts from sane people like your good selves. This awful situation surely brings out the very best and worse in folk.

The fact that his parents shopped him should be taken as a positive thing Photo-taker but clearly you are on the rampage with this issue and there's no getting through to you.
You are obviously set in your ways. I won't chastise you further as you clearly reflect a lot of opinions that feel the same way. We can only agree to disagree here. Not that I don't understand where you are coming from though...

Re: A Muslim View of the Extremists
Not Racist just factual
Terrorist Camps for extremists exist, wether they be in afghanistan, pakistan, indonesia
Brainwashing is something that Moderate Muslims themselves put forward
because the message of Violence is not being preached in Mosques
Try reading the article and you might understand
As for the family saying they were good poeple, they probably were but all of us humans have the capacity to commit deeds of great evil sadly
It just takes the right Circumstances
Unfortunately those that preach the ideology of violence have apowerful allie in the TV.Everyday they send pictures of another 20/30/40 muslims blown to pieces in IRAQ.Its ony natural that this will trigger some to do the unthinkable
cheers

Re: A Muslim View of the Extremists
You could say the west has become a target for failing to stamp on countries like Syria, Pakistan and Iran ... time for some revenge bombing of their cities, or is that selective bombing of strategic targets. Anyway they've got it coming, at least Iran has, along with the unavoidable civilian casualties, no way they can be allowed to develop nuclear capability.
