Having watched the goings on over of the first 2 tests I do declare that some Batsmen have lost which is most likely caused by a feeling of invulnerability when wearing the Helmut
When were any of us cricketers ever taught to take our eye of the ball when facing short pitched bowling?
Even I,a shortsighted middle order batsmen know helmet or no helmet,
you KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL,which then allows you to DUCK or SWERVE to safety.

Re: Bouncers in Cricket
Some of the wides being called in this series, where the ball barely gets above the shoulder, are fucking ridiculous.

I can't recall seeing any Wides called as your saying it but then i haven't watched all sessions, cricket puts me to sleep especially when Boycotts on
Those sort of calls really should be left to the third umpire like many others IMHO
A real gripe is dismissals that aren't,third umpire territory for sure
cheers

There is too much reliance on the equipment to protect and I agree batsmen do take their eyes off the ball too much now.
I think the problem maybe that batting helmets are easily accessible and most of the kids use them now at an early age so get into bad habits. When I was at school in the late 70's and early 80's we didn't have them hence we had to keep our eye on the fucking ball or else.
As for the wides then there have been a few given however it is one of the few new rules that I actually agree with.
The idea is to stop negative bowling when there is either a last day run chase or when the batting side has a recognised batsmen in with the tail and at the end of the over they bowl a high bouncer to the good batsmen to keep the rabbit on strike.

Re: Bouncers in Cricket
the helmet issue is one that's been forced on the game, all club players under 18 must now wear one
we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

I considered citing the case of Roe, but was concerned that I might appear a cunt by changing the topic of the thread
