REAL NICE: To help raise money to pay the medical bills for Hungarian
Olympic legend Ferenc Puskas, now 78 and suffering from an Alzheimer's-
like disease, Real Madrid played the Puskas All-Stars in a benefit
soccer match in Budapest. The match grossed 421 million forints
(US$2.21 million). But that was before Real Madrid collected their 320
million forint appearance fee, plus 25.5 million forints for hotels and
other expenses. The expense of putting on the game pushed the total
expenses to 424 million forints, leaving the fund-raiser with a 3
million forint (US$17,000) deficit. (Reuters) ...Funny, the organizers
said the same thing Puskas did: "What fund-raiser?"
Pardon me if this is old/stale news. Thought it might have been raised on here but did I miss it?

Re: Real Madrid.
Given their un-ethical/stupid habit of sacking managers, even when they win everything thats available, would you expect anything less?
Obviously they don't understand the meaning of a 'fund raiser'
I get the impression that their mortgaged to the hilt and have been for decades.Given their recent outlays for new signings USD2.21 million would be spare change
USD2.21 million is what they probably pay several of their superstars every week
Disgraceful behaviour given what he did for that club
cheers

Re: Real Madrid.
Don't be surprised as this is what alot of the top clubs do.
When a Premiership Club plays a pre season friendly away from home against a side from the football league then you'd think the league club would keep the dough?
Unfortuntely not. By the time the pay the Premiership Clubs fees and cost etc then they are lucky if they have anything left.
I can remember Chelsea coming down to Exeter some years a go and Exeter were potless. Exeter ended up with a couple of grand out of it while Chelsea pocketed the rest.
Sure it's not Chelsea's fault that Exeter got into debt but you'd think a Premiership Club could afford to let go of ?30,000 to help out but no. ?30k is fuck all to them but an absolute fortune to Exeter.
This isn't just a pop at Chelsea, they are no better or worse than the rest of the big boys.
