Re: Turning terrorism into terror? isn?t
I think you read what you want to see - I mentioned porn in one paragraph ..... did you read the rest. Pathetic response.

That line could equally be borrowed by me and related to the stuff you and the other kneejerkers come out with, RB.

The people who are behind the attacks in London are at war with our way of life. They see as as liberal and stupid and godless, and maybe we are. But allowing them to dictate how we live our lives is giving them a victory.
There will always be discontented people in society who are looking for absolutes, and can be manipulated into thinking they are soldiers for a good cause. One of the bombing victims was a Hindu woman (and let's just remember how many non-Christians died in those attacks on innocent citizens) whose boy friend, a Muslim, was horrified by the video released this week, and said the bombers were being brainwashed into following an interpretation of Islam abhorrent to him and many others.
If people chose to judge us by our holy book, we could just as easily be seen as violent, oppressive, bloodthirsty zealots.
It's also worth bearing in mind that blind religious fanatacism resulted in some folk grabbing a piece of real estate that hadn't belonged to them in 1900 years----the equivalent of the Romans showing up at London's front door and saying they wanted the keys back.
Extremist groups can afford to see things in absolutes---and the certainty of their "beliefs" can be attractive to people sick of the various shades of grey in society. But unless we want to go down some totalitarian road, we cannot do the same.

What you right on types fail to realise is that just because some people don't subscribe to the tidal wave of political correctness and Guardian style bullshit we have to contend with these days it doesn't automatically make us fascists/nazis and all the other crap you lot come out with. I personally find the far right as ludicrous as the far left.
It's the regular people I talk to; decent, ordinary people who are sickended by what our country has become. They are not racists or neo-nazis, just ordinary people trying to get on with life. I don't think I've spoken to one single person in recent years who thinks the UK is improving as a place to live and that is hugely alarming.

Political correctness is not something I approve of. What I see as fascistic or extreme is targeting people because of their colour/religion. Far right and far left are as bad as each other.
It may be a pipe dream, but I want law-abiding folk in this country to be treated the same, no matter where they are from or which branch of religion they follow (bear in mind the Old Testament is as much a part of Judaism and Islam as it is Christianity). Because one Muslim commits an atrocity doesn't put me at war with all of the faith's followers, just as an Irish bomber killing and maiming dozens of civilians would have had me shouting that all Irish people deserve to die.
Each time we emphasise the Muslim side of the terrorists, we're doing their work for them---sowing resentment in that community, filling another generation with reasons to hate, allowing more idealistic young men and women to be brainwashed into becoming martyrs.
(I would like to know how stupid you have to be to allow someone to strap ten pounds of explosives to you, tell you where and when to detonate it, and say, "Gosh, you're so lucky, I wish it was me blowing myself up.").
No more. If I can't put the argument across to an intelligent bloke like you, Rudey, that opening up the fault lines in our society is ensuring victory for those pathetic, cowardly shiteholes who only expose themselves to danger when appearing on al-Jazeera, then what's the point?

Re: Turning terrorism into terror? isn?t
Am I missing something here? Are you saying that the movements of the 60's have no lasting effect in the UK. What's the relevance of your first quotation to your main argument (although its more rant than argument).
And I would have thought that you would totally dissociate yourself from the second.
But why am I bothering to respond to someone who apparently wants to kill millions of innocent people.

That all seems perfectly fair to me. How about a firm handshake! Apologies for anything I may have said to cause you offence personally in the heat of battle!
