9/11 - Four Years On...

Post by Lex Luger »

What a horrible day 11th September, 2001 was. First, I see some utter munter who used to fancy the pants off me in the street, and then I find out about the World Trade Centre.

Share your pain of this horrible day here.

I hate Kasabian.

I was sitting in Frankfurt Airport waiting for a flight home, watching it all happen on TV's in the departure lounge.

I was erm...... 'slightly worried'.

i was out fishing and caught sod all. when i got in the car to go home, the reports on the radio were about a plane crash in new york. the closer i got to home, the more convinced they were about terrorism as each attrocity happened. somewhat surreal day

I was driving back through Victoria after a shoot with John Mason shagging Sandie when i got the call from my sister. I was driving a Frontera then. I remember saying aloud to myself: Fuck! They did it! They finally did it! Fucking bastards! I say this because it wasnt the first attempt on the WTC as you know. others have tried and failed but that fateful day, the terrorists got the whole lot and i couldnt help but feel that I saw this coming. this was the holy grail for terrorists with a lot more meaning than killing a lot of people.

Its strange, even with recent events in Louisiana and Hurricane Katrina that America portrays itself as a formidable force as a first world super power but it appears to be so vulnerable within itself.

We're ALL vulnerably, thats the scary thing about it all. Its all well and good being hard-line American and thinking - no offence - that you're invincible but the stark truth of it all is that it could happen anywhere, anytime and no amount of arresting individuals will stop it. Unfortunately, when Mr.Big is caught eventually, he'll be replaced by another lunatic with delusions of grandure.

Forget about 9/11 thats ancient history

Not in the terrorists wildest dreams could they conjur up whats happening in New Orleanss at the minute

I expect the final death toll at 'New Orleans' will make 9/11 look like picnic

If only the Government had included the poor, sick & unmobile in its Evacuation plan or maybe not including them was part of their plan

cheers

There are always two sides to things. What we perceive as the strengths of our society, the freedom and opportunities people have to travel, the access we have to cities, the crazy people---the ones who don't mind how many they kill in their mad jihad/crusade/progrom---see as weakness to be exploited.

As long as there are those stupid or misguided enough to be brainwashed into giving up their lives in terror atrocities, we will all be vulnerable. That was the lesson of September 11, 2001---a lesson emphasised again on July 7, 2005.

Every time we give up one of the freedoms we have in the hope of combatting the terror threat, we're giving them a victory. Each time we attack, verbally or physically, our own citizens because we think they are part of a terrorist conspiracy, we drive more to the terror cause.

The aftermath of December 26, 2004 showed the world at its best, caring, rushing to help people in need of urgent aid. We show our higher selves in the face of adversity, and the worst of ourselves when gripped by fear.

Just an opinion.

I was just starting work at 2.45 BST on 11th Septmeber 2001 when someone told me about what had happened, genuinely my very first thought was "Oh fuck, here we go, more nonsense and hysteria" and my first comment was "it will make another big movie then"... my cynicism has grown since then. Those islamic morons have handed the powers that be in the US and Europe all the ammunition they ever needed to a) forge ahead with their lust for middle eastern oil... (handily enough Al'Quaida and the Taliban handed the US on a plate their desired pipe through Afganistan and start the war in Iraq, which is now the extremists reason for more terror) & b) implement as many methods of control (under the guise of "prevention of terroism") of their own citizens as they can think of, without much opposition.
When you look at the gains western powers that be have made in the four miserable years since 9/11 it is hard not to be cynical. If these so-called islamic extremists aren't working with the western authorities they claim to despise so much, it's hard to see what more they could have done to strengthen them - has to be the own-goal of all own-goals.
