The Beeb seems to be full of Jollies. Don't know if they still do it as I do not listen to Radio 1 anymore but they used to send teams out to Ibiza to broadcast shows. It's bloody radio, what do we care whether the music is broadcast from Ibiza or Broadcasting House, it sounds the same to us, so the only reason they are out there is for a Jolly for the overpaid DJ's.
Jeremy Vine had to go out to South Africa to broadcast his show during the Africa celebrations, why? he could have spoken by phone to the people he interviewed and we would still have heard the same thing. During the recent strike, Vine was right on and didn't go to work, perhaps if they got together and knocked the Jollies on the head the Beeb might not have to make anyone redundant.

Sure, they're out there in numbers, but it's a big story and BBC news service is channelled to many the world over through a variety of media.

Remember, more so than sport or entertainment, news is the most competitive area between the TV companies. The Beeb likes to justify its fee with coverage that is, hopefully, at least the equal of its rivals on all the important issues. Recently they've faltered - their coverage of the London bombings was horribly cribbed and found them fumbling. ITV and Sky left them standing, so there's ground to recover.

The BBC now has a number of channels broadcasting only outside the UK, such as BBC World and BBC America, which are funded by subscriptions and advertising revenue. In turn, the output of these channels is used by some of the home-based channels, most notably News24. So, I suspect the extra News24 team in America will actually be financed by BBC World / BBC America, thus providing an extra no-cost service to licence-payers.

BBC America is getting increasingly popular and is bringing in good revenue to the BBC, to keep licence fees down. I am sure the BBC will want to cover the current hurricanes well, in order to maintain or increase their popularity with the US audience.

I?m fed-up to the back teeth hearing about Hurricane Rita.

You watch the weather on BBC 1 now and they lead with F**king Hurricane Rita, before they tell me whether it is going to rain where I live tomorrow.

Do you think the yanks had to sit through hours of news reports about the whirlwind that ripped through Birmingham the other week?

I just wish Tony would hurry up and get the UK made the 51st state of the US and get it over with !!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure whether you've all been rejected for jobs by the BBC, or if it beat you up in the playground and stole your pocket money.

Yes, reporters can cover stories over the phone; they can even manage to do a voice over on someone else's pictures. But journalism (the real definition of the word, not chasing after some alleged celeb) works best face to face. It also means you don't have to take some dodgy people's word for it that a story is true.

I'm sure Frank Gardiner, and his cameraman, enjoyed the freebie to Saudi Arabia to be shot.

Why so many staff in government offices? Why so many admin staff in hospitals? Where does the questioning of allocation of resources end?

Just keep watching Sky, if that's what you want. Some of us like to be informed about what's going on---and with some of the Katrina coverage, it actually looked like the Beeb's news team had finally got its balls back.
