Scrubs & commercial breaks

Post by Dorrin »

Is Scrubs the finest comedy show on TV at present? I think so, only spoiled with the US (and UK as well) desire to stick so many commercials in that the programme is only 20 minutes long. Before I'm told that commercials pay for the shows, I know but why not shorten them and charge more. Plus the cable channels insist on churning out all those bloody finance & pension commercials and it is no good zapping as every channel seems to have their breaks at the same time to trap us.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Agree, Green Wing was hilarious plus anything with Sarah Alexander in it is worth watching. The nympho admin. manager and the crazy Scottish councilor were excellent as were the rest of the cast.

My favourite character is Cox, closely followed by The Janitor.
Oh, and obviously I'd do Sarah Chalke. She speaks fluent French and German and is also a qualified skiing instructor. Grrrrrrrrrrrowl!

My solution to the commercial breaks problem nowadays is to record everything on Sky Plus then watch it after it has finished, while fast-forwarding through the breaks. It just means wathing most programmes an hour after everybody else but it does actually save time.

Talking of ads, why do US programmes now have opening credits which drag on forever over the programme. The episode of 'Without a trace' tonight ran the credits over the first 17 mins of programme, and there was an ad break in there. Why?
We have need of you again, great king.

If you think we shove too many ads into programmes you should try watching TV in the States...or Australia.
Jesus! Every hour has 15 mins of commercials.
2 breaks in an episode of The Simpsons or Seinfeld.
The programme ends.....ad break.....then back for the end titles.....another ad break......new programme.......ads 5 mins into it!!!
I HATE FUCKING ADVERTS!!!!

And every programme has a sponsor.......

We are slowly following America's lead with respect to broadcasting.

The worst crime is with sports.

American Football or Aussie Rules- an ad follows every goal.

We are slowly defacing British Sport - ads actually ON rugby pitches!!!
Madness I tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You soon relaise that the commercial stations exist solely to sell you stuff.
Any entertainment is by the by.
Sad.

Yes, if you watch Scrubs on ABC1 they have the opening then straight into adverts, then 3 minutes before the end adverts again. I take it this is the US way, not very user friendly.
