Another brilliant thing about Eastern Europe which I'll be bold enough to venture that you'll enjoy is their complete and utter disregard for political correctness and all the leftie toss we are up against in Blighty under Blair. They think it's bollocks which I bloody love!! Sales of The Guardian are zero (As they should be here!), they don't give a toss about vegetable rights and the girls look so hot they are pretty much a different species with the coolest accents you've ever heard. Every time you have a conversation with a girl over there you can imagine you are in a James Bond film and a good one at that, not one of the ones with that welsh twat. ALL that and I've never seen a speed camera over there.
I intend to form a little outpost of my very own out there in the near future as Blair seems hellbent of bolloxing England beyond repair.
Cheesed Off With Chavs?
Re: Cheesed Off With Chavs?
Worth also noting the reaction English football players of a certain hue get when they're playing in eastern Europe----but what does that matter with regard political correctness, eh?

Re: Cheesed Off With Chavs?
Well football is a yob's game just as much in Eastern Europe as it is here. Do you seriously expect me to believe that there is NO racism at the likes of Millwall or Rangers? I love the idea that English football fans are somehow superior because they may chant less racist abuse than their Eastern European rivals. They may bring chaos to city centres throughout Europe, beat eachother to a pulp and leave a trail of puke and lager cans behind them but, hey, they're not racist! What great lads!
Re: Cheesed Off With Chavs?
My point was that showing the red card to racism isn't deemed a priority in Slovakia, if last year's game with England was anything to go by. And I wasn't trying to suggest all eastern Europeans are racists. Football yobs are brainless the world over. But perhaps it's time that they admitted it goes on at matches, and they should do something about it.
I'd forgive countries that produce such beauties as Sandy and Sophie Moone and Sandra Shine many things, but not turning a blind eye to racism.

Re: Cheesed Off With Chavs?
Of course your not being unreasonable wanting that look back just unrealistic in the expectation that youngsters of today would break the trend of every generation since time in memorial and replicate their elders
Given that its the age of equality and young women are dressing to please themselves I don't think your dream is going to come to fruition anytime soon
Not all women in the past dressed like goddesses
Need I remind you off what looks flower power, punk & grunge sporned
in the high street
The bottom line is what ever highly visible A-Z Grade Celebs do will more likely than not be picked up and replicated by Youngsters
Lets face it most of todays young talentless Celebs(for want of a better description) ooze anything but Class & Sophistication because that doesn't get them noticed
cheers

Re: Cheesed Off With Chavs?
Dribbler said "My brother visited Prague last year and came back hugely impressed. He's an ex council estate lad, like me (of course), but he came back raving about the architecture, the street artists and the general culture and civility of the people."
Is there any reason why you tell us your brother's background? What's significant about it?
Or maybe he reads the Guardian? Would that explain why he appreciated Prague.

Since proletarians are not normally noted for their appreciation of architecture, art and culture, I though it was interesting and significant. The point I was trying to make was that although those who know him (including me) would not expect him to be a culture vulture or suspect any appetites and sympathies in that direction, he came back overwhelmed by the place, the culture, and the atmosphere.
In another instance I was taken aback to hear that one of our moody old council estate pals had taken up collecting art after a series of visits to Prague (who would have thought it of him?) and wouldn't flinch while spending ?4000 on a painting or sculpture - mind you, he can afford to indulge that hobby, as he's been manager of one of the north's most successful knocking shops for over a decade.

There is a magazine that you would like, Officer- it is called 'The Chap' and is a 20's/30's piss-take of today's lads mags and general chav culture. Sounds like you are a bit of an anarcho-dandyist like myself.
Here's the link to the site:
Down with vulgar youth, vive the Tweed revolution!!
If the link doesn't work, get back to me.

I say, fudgelflaps old chap. I found that an eminently agreeable interweb milieu, and I must confess some moderate sympathy with the sentiments expressed therein?. I thank you for telegraphing me it?s existence. Good show.
You know, a chap can?t be to careful these days, what with the upsurge of decedent interweb portals (and proprietorships often comprising of inebriated bounders, cads and charlatans) that one must rejoice when such an elevated oasis of civility comes to light. Anarcho-dandyist indeed, Sir.
