Sorry mate, but music is the main thing in my life...apart from sex and Hob Nobs. I play, and I also listen to as much as I can. Always have, always will. Pretty open to everything, although like everyone I have my prejudices.

I've heard a lot of Kiss' stuff, unfortunately, and I accept it's tongue-in-cheek, but it's still dog shite. A turd in spandex is still a turd.

Van Halen? Aerosmith? In the same breath as The Stones, Floyd and Zep? Do me a favour! You clearly love pyrotechnics and teased hair more than music or talent.

As for that old US vs UK chestnut: boring! It's not either or. Both countries have produced great stuff. Quality is quality, wherever it's born.

Sat firmly on the fence..I love it all! There's a time for the sleazy riffs of The Stones and a time for the adrenalised OTT rock'n'roll of Van Halen, a time for the majestic classic rock of Zeppelin and a time for the comic book outrageousness of Kiss and there is ALWAYS time for...Pink Floyd.

I just love the sound of an electric guitar through a wall of amps wether it be the soulful musings of a Gilmour or the freakiness of Eddie VH. It's all an escape from the everyday crap we all have to face.

In the words of Ronnie Dio, "Long Live Rock'n'Roll."

Kiss were very much a stage-act rather than a group of musicians bound by music. Their reputation is down to a career touring the states with an extravagant stageshow, and that it what came first with them - the make-up, the pyrotechnics, the shagging - the music was secondary
They cannot be compared to The Stones, Led Zep or even Aerosmith, for whom the creation of new music was of importance than their stage-act, nor can they they be called amazing musicians when compared to the above.

Eddie Van Halen smokes Jimmy Page on guitar, who was an inspired riff maker, but incredibly sloppy live. In terms of talent on an instrument (ooer!) i'd put Eddie above Mick, Dave Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore. Listen to VH1 particularly 'Eruption' or 'Runnin' with the Devil'.
I would rank Ritchie Blackmore or Michael Schenker above Page. Listen to UFO from 'Phenomenon' to 'Strangers in the night', Great stuff.
As was said 'It's all good though'. The best thing about this thread is that it inspired me to search out some old bootlegs from the loft. :)

My TV guide says of tonight's episode of Rock School "Kiss frontman ... tries to turn classically trained teens into a rock band. Tonight: the kids find it difficult to take Gene seriously."
They're not the only ones.

Somehow I think a guy who dresses as a comic book demon in eight inch heels singing songs like "God Of Thunder" isn't exactly trying to be a "Serious" musician.

Does your problem with Gene lie with his (Adopted) nationality?

Its a 2nd tiered reality TV show Mart and like all other reality shows they've got to build some tension/confrontation to try and attract viewers

Just saw the finale and have got to say PATHETIC
He might be a great bass player but he can't act for shit

One can only hope there aren't any third tier reality shows being booked
as we speak but i fear the worst ;-)

cheers

I don't know what his "adopted" nationality is.
Ah, I bet you're accusing me of being anti-american again.
