George Takei,the Japanese-American actor who played Mr.Sulu on Star Trek has come out of the closet and announced that he is gay!Takei,who lived in a California internment camp during WW2 (age 4-8), said he had been reluctant to "come out" for fear of hurting his career.The very-low-voiced Takei has been parodied often for his voice and his extreme over-enunciation of words.He has been with his 'life-partner'Brad Altman for 18 years!

I met George Takei many years ago and had a gut feeling he was. Like a lot of celebrites I've met he was polite and couteous the whole time. I've grown up now and don't care much for such matters but i think the real bombshell that would change my perspective on the world would be if I heard guys like Bruce Willis or Clint Eastwood was gay...imagine that

Can only think he needs a bit of publicity as apart from a couple of Star Trek films he hasn't been heard of since the TV finished 30 years ago. Almost as shocking as Christopher Biggins coming out a couple of years ago. As the entertainment world seems to awash with uphill gardeners, who actually cares anymore. Much prefer the Rock Hudsons of the world who kept it to themselves and didn't bore the rest of us with their preferences.
