I have a DVD that I just want to copy a small scene from. I was unable to Dub the DVD down to a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) HDD for editting. The option was not available in the drop down menu. So thought I would play the DVD and record the scene on my VCR. This would only record in Black and White....
Is there any software/way to copy the scene on the laptop - DVD I would then be able to put the DVD into the PVR and add the scene.
I'll only do it once promise.......

You can do it with free software VLC from
Install player, then to record follow steps:
1 Start Player
2 File / Open Capture Device
3 Go to 'Disc' tab and chage drive letter to your dvd drive
4 If you want to record a particular chapter - scroll up thru the Title #'s and you'll see path is dvdsimple://f:@5 for 5th chapter
5 At bottom of pane tick box for 'Stream Output' and go into Settings
6 In Settings tick box for 'File' and browse to location you want ... call file xyz.m2p (m2p is the default mpeg extension for vlc, they play ok in Media Player) Leave Encapsulation Method as Mpeg-TS
7 Press OK to save changes and file will be recorded
8 When finished rename file as next record will be under same name unless you change it ... a whole disc can be streamed/recorded in 5 or 6 minutes
VLC can be used to record virtually any stream going ... there is plenty of documentation on the site. It's also easy to stream video over a lan or over the net.

Half way there....It copied into the laptop (my downloads folder) in colour--great. I named the file as xxx.m2p and kept enc meth. as Mpeg-TS.
However can not work out how to copy it back to a DVD. Tried to reverse the steps with nothing appearing on the DVD+RW in

No activity light either. So thought I would play the file in Windows media player vers. 10...36.46 and from there burn it to DVD. But Windows Media Player doesn't recognise the file type.
I think you can tell I haven't done this before.....but I am enjoying it..... just need to get the scene back out of the lap top onto DVD......then hopefully I can then put it in the Personal Video Recorder dub it down to the HDD and combine it with its sister scene.
I tried the wizard but didn't go to my drive so used the wizard to change the code to mpeg1 and copy back into the Downloads folder as a test. At present I am still looking for where that went !!!!! {bit worried as it is my wife's laptop}.
