OEJ often talks sense on this forum I find _ i was talking about this tonight with someone - sure kiddie fiddling is a terrible crime, but it evokes more anger than anything, yet clearly there are things happening which are even worse, which most folk seem less bothered about. i find this odd

IF i was a rich singer, such as him, I would be looking at who i had to bribe to get out of jail in the still of the night, its know the system isnt closedto such abuse, so we may see a hudini there.
It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Im thinking more in terms of paying the girls involved not to give evidence, it does appear that he is going to be charged with having sex with 2 underaged girls both these girls apparently were child prostitututes forced into it to support the rest of their family so if glitters cronies throw enough money in that direction then no doubt the scumbag will walk.

Dear Thai Police,

Have a good search around, you never know you might find Michael Jackson and Jonathon King as well. Put them in this firing squad and do the world a favour.

Dave.

Vietnam is a hypocritical country (same for Cambodia, Thailand) ... on one hand they encourage tourism that is to a large extent based on sex. They know underage sex goes on - the majority abuse is carried out by their own population or by citizens from other Asian nations, like Japan and China. They don't care about young females in brothels or on the streets ... because cracking down on it would dry up a valuable source of tourist income - money spent in hotels/bars/restaurants. But what they do care about is their international image, so they jump through the hoops and take down a few 'rich' tourists every now and again to satisfy western governments, media and international watch organisations. The main reason for the show trials is so we are seen to be doing something against the sex tourists - and they can pretend to be doing something as well. Trouble being, even if Gary Glitter is convicted, Vietnam will still welcome the next batch of sex tourists as long as they don't cause any embarrassment by being hounded by western media. The real crime in Vietnam is showing the rest of the world what goes on - they'd prefer to let it happen, but just pretend it didn't.

That's just what I was thinking Nachovx
Thinking about things logically rather than towing the frenzied media line, there are several factors:
1) His crime was so emotive and he is so well-known that he had to leave the UK for his own safety, no country wants to be seen as welcoming the old perv so he goes to Cambodia, Vietnam etc were they don't care.
2)It wouldn't take a genius to work out that all these girls have some sort of pimp, and any decent pimp would target Mr Gadd with underage temptation. A clever pimp would also lull Glitter and his people into a honey trap, knowing he is fairly well-off, whereby they could execute (pardon the pun) a plan to extort a not inconsiderable amount.
He won't be executed but I predict
1) He will walk free with his reputation in further tatters, and promptly disappear somewhere, the next anyone will hear of him will be when he dies.
2) The people (pimps and police) involved will have their pockets lined... "unofficially" of course.
They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?
