Saddam Hussain
Saddam Hussain
I have a sense of unease regarding the trial of Saddam Hussain for crimes against humanity. Firstly the choice of incident is most odd. It concerns the execution of a group of people who allegedly had tried to assassinate him. Well, I might not be to well disposed towards someone who had tried to kill me and, if I had the power to do so, might behave in the same way as Saddam. With the benefit of hindsight, it is now clear that the way Saddam ran Iraq was, unfortunately, the appropriate way to run it. A Nuremburg style victors' justice is always distasteful, as it was at Nuremburg.
Re: Saddam Hussain
Is it still being described as an unsuccessful assassination attempt? I suppose thats for the benefit of people who don't realise he's still alive.

Re: Saddam Hussain

Yes diplodocus and 2 million could be stretching it like the weapons of mass destruction.

I never said they would, and I have no love for either, but to put them in the same league as Saddam doesn't stand up

Hi, just wondering when you state: 'an eight year war vs Iran, two gulf wars, attacking Isreal, genocide of the Marsh Arabs, oppression of the Kurds and the Shias. Tell me that two million is unlikely to be far wrong.'
Does this mean that all those killed by US & UK bombings, etc, should be counted as deaths caused by Saddam?
Just a question.

Re: Saddam Hussain
Oh, one more thing, a couple of top-people in the UN, resigned their posts, because of their disgust at the Sanctions policies, which were not harming Saddam, but the people, as it was estimated that upto 500'000 children had died as a result of them.
So if Saddam has killed 2 million, and the US & UK bombings during the 1st Gulf War killed between 100'000 & 300'000, the 2nd Gulf War killed 100'000 & rising, and the sanctions policy has killed 500'000 children (not including adults), then George Bush Snr, George Bush Jr, Tony Blair & Bill Clinton are nearly halfway their all by themselves.
