It was reported in last Fridays Guardian that the Italian goverment is considering levying a 20% tax on porn films, well known Italian stud and filmaker Rocco Siffredi is up in arms saying they are picking a fight with sex, maybe, but contrast that with the U.K. where a tax on the sell of porn films wouldnt raise much more than zilch because of our outdated laws on the sell and distribution of porn films, now we know that Gordon Browns figures do not add up and he is looking for ways of raising more revenue so wake up Gordon relax the laws slap on your tax and everyone would win except the pirates because if porn was more widely available the cost to the consumer would come down even with a tax, filmakers would sell more films, the goverment would raise more revenue which they could waste and even the anti pornsters cannot complain with a tax on porn, but i bet it will never happen in the U.K.

Why not relax the laws on Red Light districts while they're on ... Newcastle, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow could all benefit from these areas, with live sex shows and brothels. It would take trade straight away from Prague, Amsterdam and St Petersburg ... and think of the saving in airline fuel and the greener environment it would promote. Local hotels, restaurants and service industries would prosper.

Yes nachovx i agree but i doubt if it will ever happen in the uk, as i stated before the chancellor is looking at ways of raising more revenue and the adult industry is starring him in the face but it wont happen because it would mean liberising the laws, just shows how far adrift we are from the rest of europe.

Abotu a week ago i posted about if the goverment wants to make money on tax, and give the people what they want, back the fuck off, lose the 2257 but get hardline on law breakers, export the kiddie fiddlers to a bangkok prison make it a real deterent, rather than "if you molest our kids we will give you loads of money, a house, and a new identity?", wow thats scary.

Tax the porn industry, regulate it, make it easier and more open, and rake the cash in.

I know it wont be that easy, but the loss of money on silly things like 2257, and policing it, and arresting and trials and whatever, + proffits on taxing, would save millions and make millions.

Putting a tax on legal porn will only make it more expensive to produce and will enable the pirates to sell even cheaper.

If this country wishes to earn taxes from the Adult Industry it must stop censorship. We have to compete with the rest of the world. The British Board of Classification should do its proper job and merely classify, not withold licenses until cuts are made. Censorship as ordered by the Home Office is not its job. It is the job of the courts. If the BBFC refuses a certificate then the producer should know that he can publish and be damned and get his classification money back from them.

That is let a jury decide at the Old Bailey under the Obscene Publications Act if the producer wishes to go ahead and publish it. This way censorship would reflect the people's morals and not the state's.

The mail order ban ought to be lifted on adult films to allow producers to earn more money to invest in filmmaking. We could earn as much as the arms industry if all the red tape were cut and censorship was the same for all European adults. We were suppliers to the world in the Sixties and we could earn porn gold again.

Classification in the US, even for mainstream movies is optional ... although virtually a necessity if you want them in mainstream theatres and rental outlets ... most censorship is self-censorship to get on Blockbuster's shelves. Porn is self certified as xxx and any prosecutions only arise after the product has gone on sale - and it's hard to get a jury to convict as they know that infringing somebody else's freedom of speech will one day have implications for themselves. There isn't another European country, apart from Ireland (if that's counted as Europe) that requires a classification for porn - Italy has no film classification system at all after several major court cases failed ... the general law of the land applies to events depicted in a movie.

Tax on porn!!! What you mean we don't already get stung by the BBFC and limited to selling in sex shops!!! I will whole heartedly welcome a tax if they open the market up for R18 to be sold by mail order legally....and I'm not talking a take the piss percentage either....Jesus, you'd think the government were pimping us out...Oh! They already are!

Well my really bad wording, but i meant back the fuck off and leave us all to it, lose all the stupid rules like 2257, chill the censorship etc etc, much as above, if hardcore (R18) was available as wide as 18 sales would be higher thus making more money

Tax is especially bad for the creampie market. In-cum tax is bloody extortionate.

Brown will now tax anything due to the financial black hole which might develop in light of M&S winning their case at the court of Human Rights (?)- such was their windfall that a lot of other retailers are gonna shout 'me too, gimme some of that action!'.

So, therefore, don't be surprised if it becomes a reality.

My point being if R18s were allowed to be sold at more outlets and via mail order the price would come down because of greater competition, but still making more money for producers and retailers and the chancellor because of the increase in sales which would mean less money for the pirates. so if Gordon Brown has a hole that needs filling he should fill it with porn by relaxing the rules on the sale and distribution of R18s, but it wont happen because they would rather tax food and the air that we breathe than re classify porn.
