Hi
A friend is having problems with her pc and I was wondering if any of the experts can help please?
She's still using windows 98 on a Hewlett Packard and has been trying to defragment the hard drive.
All she gets when doing it is a white screen (?) and the defragment does 1 or 2 % which has taken a day and then stops.
I've been telling her to throw it in the bin (windows that is) but she has a lot of college work on her pc.
Not sure if it has anything to do with it but her problems started when she tried to install a web cam on her PC (and not she could do naughty rude stuff either, which is such a shame lol).
If anyone has any advice about what she can do to overcome it I'd appreciate it.
Cheers
Andy
Computer help- defragmenting
Re: Computer help- defragmenting
Disable the screensaver and any anti-virus programs and unplug the cable/DSL modem (if any).
Delete the files in the Recycle Bin, the browser cache (Temporary Internet Files folder if using MSIE) and the Temp, History and Recent folders. Corrupt files can cause Defrag problems.
See if that helps.
If not

Never tried Diskkeeper mentioned, but I've been using O&O Pro Defrag for the last year or so and it's excellent - it offers different types of defrag, which is very useful to how you work. Product info and download link:

I can recommend Diskeeper too.
I have to keep Win98SE on my PC to use a couple of ancient DOS CAD packages.
Yes I know I could partition drive etc to have both Win98 & XP but I can do everyting I want with Win98SE.
After I had a 120GB hard drive the Windows defragmenter could not cope.
