Whist you eulogise the 'glorious' work of a small minority of idiotic army folk, please bear in mind that the vast majority of decent minded squaddies will now face even more attacks as a direct result of their comrades stupidity.

That's the thing with PR nightmares like this one, they feed into the hands of the extremisitmargins and dramatically increase the agenda of those who seek to destroy any concept of rebuilding a country we have fucked up beyond any human understanding.

This isn't a brawl outside a kebab shop after the pubs have kicked out.

This is our country, illegally invading another state in the name of promoting democracy.

Whilst your gung ho, mindless, xenophobia may be charming to the intellectually impared- it sadly misses the key point by a long shot.

"Terrified teenagers"? Jeez, I hope they were. I seriously doubt that this pair were nice, intelligent, respectable young men who were innocently walking home from a conscientious day of medical study at the local uni. Young men who were on their way home to tend their ailing Grandma, when they were set upon totally at random by barbaric members of a brutal imperialist army. I doubt that very much. What is more likely is that they were a pair of lairy teenage idiots who were lipping and possibly attacking the British Army with stones or suchlike. They thought our chaps were poncy Nancy boys who would just stand there and take it - but in that they were sadly mistaken.

You're made to feel "proud" for enforcing the will of our paymasters, but if you step out of line (or they decide that you have) then you are punished no matter what. I have to disagree with you Dibbsie old son, there's a lot I do agree with you in general, but I think you've got it wrong on this one, doing what those squaddies did to those kids was not only wrong but stupid;those same kids because of the kicking they've had; next time will be throwing a hand grenade or wiring up a roadside bomb.
It certainly won't have taught them a lesson, or made them more respectful. At the least it'll have made them more hateful and the most it'll make them want vengance.
Remember we were going through this same shit in Iraq over 70 years ago and nothing has changed.

It's not a matter of PC madness or expecting the UK army to ponce about without twatting the occasional person over the head.

It's the blatant hypocrisy that makes me want to reach for the revolver.

As has been pointed out, the squaddies responsible for this latest display of moronic action (the kind of thing Dibble and his friends would be quick to criticise if the perpetrators were wearing Burbery instead of khaki) won't be the ones who face the consequences. More abuse and missile throwing from the Iraqi public is the least they can expect; troops are going to be killed.

It's been said many times, and remains true, that the problem lies within the army itself. Most of those who sign up are young and need to be moulded into a team that will obey orders without question. Part of getting that going is to make them bond, and nothing does that quicker than a spot of bullying and victimisation of those deemed weaker. There are fundamental problems within the armed services, but as they mainly police themselves not much is done about it.

Incidentally, yet again the NOTW is more interested in sales than anything else. The executives at News International responsible for splashing this filthy story won't think they have any reason to feel guilty when the bombs go off and the bullets and mortars are fired.

Never been in the position of having friends killed in ambushes and then being under fire and afterwards having a bunch of yobs fling house bricks at me but if I had, I might feel the need to get hold of a couple of them and beat the living shit out of them.

Easy to sit and pontificate about the invasion of of Iraq and the "brutality" of the British soldiers from the comfort of of your living room, probably bit different if you are there.
