Peter Benchley died today. I loved Jaws and The Deep (Filmed in Bermuda) but he demonised sharks to the point that they were hunted to the extreme, especially the Great White. Whilst sharks always had a reputation and a mystique, he did enhance it with Jaws.

Any truth in the rumour that they are going to do a sea burial?
I remember when the book first came out....think it was the first book I ever read (properly).

Its what he would have wanted.
It was also the first 'grown up' book I read in 1975.......I was hooked and subsequently, terrified of swimming in the sea afterwards.
Its a film that should not be remade, even though the shark (Bruce) is made of more plastic than 1000 barbie dolls and new technology would make it more realistic, sometimes those original films are best left alone

Can still remember the first time I saw that film on its release at the cinema- reckon that's what did my eyes in trying to make out what I could see of the swimmers naked body when she stripped of and ran into the sea!! Well I was only young!! Think it was only the second film I had taken a girl to (the first being Stardust) - didn't realise until now what a major role that guy had played in my development..lol
He played a walk on part in that film as a reporter I think (may be wrong on that one).
