Porn laws in Taiwan

I do a bit of dealing in collectable magazines, obviously for a profit. One of my main customers is in Taiwan and I asked him what the laws were over there. He dosnt seem to know or is evading the question. All the stuff I have or deal in is legal in the UK but I was wondering if I am breaking any laws in Taiwan by sending him Private Media Group magazines?

It's not Taiwan you need to worry about - it's China. I use Fedex quite a bit and checking with them you have to comply to "Chapter IV, Article 45 of the Republic of China on Taiwan Customs Law"

This basically states that "books, magazines, pictures and other articles, that are obscene and indecent shall be prohibited from importation except as otherwise specifically provided for in other laws and regulations"

Fedex specifically states that pornography is prohibited for importation using them as a carrier.

So I would say that you could have a problem as could your client.

Hi, thanks for input, I dont use fedex just Royal Mail Airmail (I only sell about one package every 2 weeks) and havnt had a problem yet but every time I send the guy a package I wonder what will happen. You mention China, I dont understand why China's laws should be relevent to Taiwan? Can you explain that bit? The important thing for me is that I dont get in trouble because of the package. I told the buyer on his first order that if it was illegal in his country then that was up to him so he is obviously willing to take the risk if there is one. But I dont want to get into any problems if the mags are stopped by customs!

Taiwan is more or less part of the Republic of China and regards it as a 'rebel province' (it's not quite that simple as it is now a multi-party democracy with some wanting Taiwanese independance and others wanting reunification with China, of course the USA have had to get involved somewhere and balls it up but that's another story)

Hi, I know about the problems between China and Taiwan, I'm a well educated lefty! (even if I cant spell) I just didnt get why Chinese laws on porn would effect Taiwanese laws on porn..... But I think I understand. Anyway what are Chinese laws on porn, just out of interest.....
