Re: Sven Hassel
Yeah, I read most of the books around the same age as you Fred, 13/14. My mate told me NOT to read Legion Of The Damned...because...SPOILER ALERT....that's the one where they all meet and where they all die, and all the other books are what happens inbetween.
So I avoided that one 'til i'd read every single one that was available...then I just had to read it. By the end I was in floods of tears! Especially when Porta died. I still remember my Mum coming into the room asking me what the matter was. "They're all dead!" I blubbed. LOL
As to their authenticity...well you get the impression the first two or three are real...LOTD, Comrades Of War, Wheels Of Terror....but then you get the distinct impression Hassel (or whatever his name is) thought "Hello, i'm on to a good thing here...let's do some more." I mean I can't believe one small company of soldiers fought in EVERY single major battle and campaign of WWII.
And why did he change the name of "Tiny" (first three books) to "Little John" I wonder? That always bothered me.

Re: Tiny - he probably didn't change the name at all, it was a different translator. He's also referred to as "Titch"
