Google Earth!

Post by fudgeflaps »

Download it. NOOOOOOOOOOOWWW.

Wow- aboslutely awesome. I am a sucker for maps, atlases and the like- but this is amazing- I can view my own house via satellite, and get good resolution from a height of 200ft, beat that!! No, it's not live- but updates are pretty much continual.

The UK, the USA and most of Europe are pixel-perfect; I imagine some nations can't compromise their national security, hence the sparse detail in some countries........ yes, I had a peek at North Korea!

Have a look, be astounded, lose a week.

Let me know your thoughts, opinions and inner fantasies (!). But not your GPS position in latitude and longditude.

'Cos I'll get ya!!

!wink!

Funnily enough I was just looking at Gatwick - the western end of the runway is at the higher res then the bulk of the runway is like chunks of Hertfordshire i.e. not pixel perfect.

I see there was a plane on the shorter, rarely used runway at Heathrow when they took the photo there - wonder if it was using it to taxi or if it had landed or was taking off from it.

Love it though and hope they are going to improve the less pixel-perect areas.

Trust you, Jacques!!!

Thank Christ for that, tame by your standards........... I was fearing another 'Meatspin' mindfuck debacle.

If you were a farmer, you'd need a big field, and a lot of highly-skilled labour.

Where I live is in a part where the resolution is excellent... I can even tell my car from my neighbour's similar one parked a few yards away.

The photo, however, is from no later than August/September 2003, as two summers ago the local pub and small shopping precinct (still clearly visible) were knocked down to make way for a large Tescos and from the brown colour of the lawns and gardens it's obviously end of summer.
