As a hard-line left winger myself, I don't think his politics come into it. But agree with the rest - don't like his music. Depressing stuff for whiney students who are too lazy to become Goths.

As much as I'm in agreement with most of you in the fact that most of you think that "mozzer" is an untalented knobhead, I admire that someone has a different musical taste from the other posters on this forum, i.e. usually it's Tony Iomi, Ozzy, Gilmour, Pink Floyd,,,,Yaaaaaaaaawn!

Sigh. It always amazes me that people dismiss him and his output as 'whining', 'depressing' and, as if it were an insult, 'music for students'. Morrissey is quite simply one of the wittiest songwriters around, as actually listening to his stuff reveals. His archness and humour define him.

He is avowedly apolitical by the way. He claims to dislike all politicians, like any sane person. As for the music thing: Morrissey describes himself very speciifically as a songwriter. He makes no claim to be either a great musician or singer. The point is, that great musicians have always surrounded him, from Marr on, because he's an unrivalled lyricist and a great showman. His voice is limited, but it's unique and his delivery is brilliant.

The point about him is that he provokes. There are so few bands or singers who do that, in any era. To me that makes him worth seeing live, worth listening to, and worth laughing about. Moz is Moz. Long may he prance and preen.

The whiny depressing students tag is just a lazy stereotype. Like all the people that still associate him with daffodils and hearing aids.
On the contrary, I find his lyrics uplifting and funny.
Morrissey is a genius, more so in these moribund times of Keane and Coldplay.
Coldplay. Now there's a band that make Pink Floyd seem almost interesting.
