The Remains of the Day

Post by DavidS »

Can anyone advise me on what criteria television companies apply in deciding how often films are shown on television? For example, 'Bad day at Black Rock', is shown about every 6 months. I accept it is a good film. An outstanding film, 'The Remains of the Day' has only ever been shown a couple of times. 'The Cook, The Theif, his Wife and her Lover', has I believe, only been shown once in the early 1990's.

Good question.

Not sure, but there might be some sort of ruling in the television rights once the film's been acquired - only a certain number of showings over the first couple of years or whatever. I'll do some digging when I've got the time.

Remains Of The Day should be on more often. An outstanding film with the best acting I've ever seen.

I don't think TV companies acquire films on an individual basis. They lease big packages so they have to take a whole range from the sublime to the gorblimey. Its then up to the programmers how often a title is screened, some real bummers maybe never.
Its 30 years since I was on the edge of the biz. so I'm open to correction.

Has The Avengers movie ever been on the box? I can't recall seeing it. Leave it to ITV. They usually show the clunkers - like Battlefield Earth and Speed 2.
