Not really a lost cause. They can't win the premiership, but they are still playing to claim 4th spot to guarantee champions league next year, so they did have something to play for.

United "crashed out" to a group that included a semi and a quarter finalist. And Benfica gave Barce a run for their money over the two legs.

The points difference in the table reflects the superiority of man u over Arsenal, over the coarse of the season, the best team always wins the league, not always true of cup comps.
