High Definition TV

Post by DavidS »

I notice 'Sky' have started broadcasting a limited number of programmes in HD. Has anyone seen it yet and is it worth investing in the equipment required to receive it?

We'll probably all be "forced" to upgrade to HD in a few years' time as it becomes established, but personally I'm inclined to wait until HD prices start to fall, as they inevitably will.

Its not even on the horizon down here. It may be worth it for big movies but I would prefer to see TV companies spending their money on better programmes.
But it seems to be "Never mind the quality, feel the width".

Good point, Mart.

Its the same with the ever-burgeoning number of satellite & cable channels: Literally hundreds of channels, but very seldom anything worth watching on any of 'em.

The demo's I have seen are suppurb. Large flat screen TV's and HD programs seem to be made for one and other. But as other's say will wait till prices fall.

Wonder if the freeview DTT service can/will transmit HDD? I hope Sky don't get to monopolise HDD!!!

Oh great ... does that mean that those 15 min advert/self selling breaks on Sky will be in HD ... I believe that sky will charge you another ?10 a month for the (very limited) HD content.
Beats me why people pay a premium price for the Sky Package only to be subjected to more advert breaks than most other commercial channels but that is another story altogether.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

They say the World Cup will be broadcast in HD,but Oh!,hang on chaps,I got caught out many years ago by buying a set that had stereo. When it did arrive the darn thing was broadcast in Nicam Stereo making my set obsolete before it's time.

I was sucket into this trap by advertisers saying how wonderful it will be,buy this, buy that...not anymore thanks!.

I'll wait, and so should you, just in case the signal changes overnight and they decide to broadcast on another wavelength, and all those Plasma sets in shops become a dinosaur.

It happened with stereo-but then the salemen are so young this happened before they were born.Or other people have short memories...

Take heed.
