Re: Prince Harry in Iraq ??????
I think Harry will do service in Afghanistan rather than Iraq, to show that he did do front line service. Remeber that the 2nd in line to the throne Andrew did active service in the Falklands flying his helicopter as a decoy for Argie exocet missiles.

I think he probably will want to prove himself over there but it is bound to be in the safest possible way.......
Would have been intersting if Blair's son was old enough and in the forces, would he go to Iraq?

Have got a lot of time for Harry. He's a good character, bags of personality and just wants to live life to the full. I think he's a lot more down-to-earth than Wills. His bird's a stunner too!

Well, Letch: my cousin was an officer in the Royal Navy during the Falklands War, and has said many times that all the stuff we were fed in the press about "heroic" Prince Andrew flying decoy missions for Exocets was a load of old cobblers. The fact was that they simply couldn't afford to put him in harm's way because it would have been such a propaganda boost for Argentina if he'd been shot down.
My cousin also served on the same base as Andrew for a while and knew him (though as a colleague rather than a "mate") and says that - once again contrary to what we were told in the press - he definitely DID sometimes get special treatment and wasn't very popular either, being a bit of a "pompous buffoon".
Harry may well end up in Iraq or Afghanistan - but I honestly can't see him on foot patrol in the streets of Basra or being allowed to do anything really hazardous. He'll be well-protected and kept out of the firing line as much as is possible. However, I also have no doubt that for years to come, we'll be regaled in the press by stories of his bravery and derring-do, and how he's "well-liked" and "just one of the lads". Same for William once he passes out from Sandhurst.
Basically the two of them are just "playing soldiers" - but I suppose they have to do something to fill their time.

Exactly! There are a couple of tolerable people in the royal family (Charles and Harry seem OK) but they and their families have been milking the public for generations. There's something very British about being fucked over and then saying thank you for it.
