Recently I decided to get myself a moped for pottering around to the shops. I had my eye on a "Puch 50cc Happy Shopper" with basket so I went to my local dealer. The young man serving said, "No sir, you don't want a Puch, here's a much better moped!" He then showed me a Honda CBR 900 Fireblade RR. On seeing this machine I asked him firstly, where were the pedals and secondly, what did "RR" stand for. He answered, "They took the pedals off this one, and RR stands for "Ready to Ramble".
Anyway, I bought said machine, now my question to anyone who's interested is:
Everytime I go out, Mrs Slip says I should dress like a Power Ranger, ie complete armoured leather clothing. I think this is crap and insist on wearing whatever i want, so if its sunny i wear shorts and a T shirt and so on. After all if i want to end up a bloody mess on the road, it's my business.
What do other bikers think? If there are any others out there!!??
P.S. Does Honda supply pedals and a basket as an option?

My argument is, on the public road, if you come off you'll probably hit a lamp-post and then get run over by a truck so you'll be killed anyway, even if you're dressed as a PowerRanger. So why not drive carefully instead. You wouldn't dress like this if you rode a 125 or a scooter, but you can still come off it.

I passed my bike test 30 odd years ago and 29 years ago gave up riding one. Why because I got a car and felt sooo much safer.
Talking about safety I passed on a 150cc jobby haven't driven for 29 years and yet can go out tomorrow and by a 1000cc bike and drive it (or try).....
Now where did I put that Parka, WHO's got it now.....
BTW Jim first time I have had a chance to say your work is great, lucky sod. Please drive safely so we can see more of it.

serious point mate, all my biker mates have had a fall at some point, some were more serious than others (ie at speed) but all were wearing proper gear.
if you got proper gear, generally you just slide along and get up a bit bruised
if you got shorts on, you are fucked
all of my biker mates say wearing shorts is a nutter thing to do, like has being said, it's your choice, but they all say don't do it

Thanks for the compliment. Last week there was an article in "The Mirror" something like, "My Trip to Hell". Some idiot bought a Fireblade and said he was going to "Tame the beast". Anyway guess what happened when he was driving at 145mph? Ok Ill tell you................the stupid TWAT crashed!! Quel surprise!! I think its a bit like cyclists who don their helmets and then behave like maniacs, thinking they're safe, chucking on Power Ranger gear doesnt protect you, driving safely does.

I used to ride a motorbike back in the 60s before it was law that you had to wear a helmet, i did come a cropper once and substained a nice bit of gravel rash but luckily i didnt bang my head as you can tell by all my sensible post on this forum, best thing to do Jim is to fit some stabalising wheels so there is less chance of you falling off when you are pissed !happy!

I came off at just over 65 (not my age you wally!) a few years ago and not only would have been seriously munching gravel (I slid along on my face for part ogf the journey), but if I not been wearing armoured leathers would probably have lost a serious amount of skin as I tumbled and slid along the road. As it was apart from a dislocated middle finger, a badly 'scuffed' bike (which was still rideable!!!) and a heavily bumped elbow, I was fine. I still managed to make work and interview someone for a job less than 30 minutes later!
Mind you I will agree that it's not falling off but either the obstacles in the way or the blind Volvo/Mini/BMW drivers that are the real problem.

Most of the guys know I have always rode big bikes, I used to race them both on the track and off (usually with blue lights behind). I have had some big spills 1 at TT broke Tib Fib Fema, another I had a 130 pluss slide, the worse was in Spain where a frigin Bimbo bread lorry ran over me after putting me into the barrier. Now I feel qualified to tell you every time without the correct kit it would have been much much worse. The only thing that holds you together is the leather and those mad Vertibrae boots are top class, Go for Dainesse they used to sponsor me and their stuff is great and resonable. My next bike is as Rizla GSXR direct from the team so after a tune in their 200mph wind tunnel I will be blasting it arround.
Take some advise drive like every other driver wants to kill you and you stand half a chance, try to ride with other experianced riders on runs (they will keep you out of bother) finnally nothing in this world beats a 160 plus ride.
