It's easy... they haven't really done any of that. Ask ANYONE who work for the depanrtment of work & pensions and they will tell you the govt figures lie. Unemployement in real terms is as bad as it's ever been and it's getting worse now that they are exporting the chavvy service-centre work to the developing countries, all that crap is going the same way as manufacturing. The NHS is as shitty as ever, just ask the millions of people who can't get an NHS dentist, and as for the mimimum wage what a storming idea that was... force employers to pay a certain level of wages to everyone and reap the benefits of their income tax contributions! Magic!
I have never been poorer in real terms than I am now, am I alone in this?

Looking at friends and my own family I dissagree. People seem to have more possessions and free time than they did 10-15 years ago. I can't comment any further back as I was at school being only 30 years old now !baby!

It's the 'norm' for working class families (and even singles) to buy their own property these days, and I can assure you it's easier to get a job now than when I left school in 1992. Then, it was either college or 40 hours a week on a training scheme, for ?29.50 a week! (workers in the 3rd world receive better pay making Nike trainers these days!)

Labour has faults, but then all parties do. At the moment they're just the best of a bad bunch.........

Couldn't agree more Sam,people have very short memories on here. I can still vividly remember the dole queues stretching down the road and some poor sod laying in a sleeping bag in every shop doorway in every city, these days i walk around London and its booming, and i don't step over homeless people every night.

Well, I have to travel 20 miles to a dentist since mine went strictly private, and now I learn that they too are doing the same. This is NOT what I pay my excessive tax and NI contributions for, nor do I enjoy paying through the nose for fuel in order to get there.
As far as the minimum wage goes, it makes perfect sense any fool can see that, force the employers hands (as they so often do these days) and then watch as all the "little people" pay more tax.

You have to ask why Dentists are opening up their own private practices. More money's my guess. Well there must be a market for more private dentists otherwise they would go bankrupt without customers.

Now ask why more people want private dentists in the 1st place? Better treatment's my guess. Again there must be more people that can afford private dentists to create the higher demand.

So..... paying less tax will just give people more money in their pockets which will lead to more people willing to pay for private dentists. This means more private dentists, which will worsen your problem. Paying dentists working for the NHS more money will stop dentists from becoming private, but will also create more demand for NHS dentists, which means longer queue's.

Lack of qualified dentists and longer queue's will then be the issue everyone will moan about, and you'll be just as bad. (not to mention paying dentists on the NHS extra will definately mean higher taxes).

Maybe 20-30 years ago dentists had short waiting lists and were totally free. Exactly what everyones looking for right? Problem is, 30 years ago not that many adults cared about their teeth as much as we do these days, so our actual problem is 'too many people are too educated about the benefits of healthy teeth & gums'!

Getting more kids into dentistry is probably the long term answer, so this topic now shifts towards student fee's and education budgets.

Oh dear, how long you got? !laugh!
