Re: Soft bastards ...
That is why when you are confronted with intruders in your own home kill them if you can. Your first responsibility is with your self protection and that of your family. Don't give them a second chance because they might take this as a weakness and attck you a second time. This is your justification for extreme sanction without prejudice.

Re: BIG BROTHER
Good post Warren, we are definately a more sensible lot in Europe and you are definately within your rights to defend yourself in the UK. I would never want the US interpretation of the same law, being applied over here!
Looking at the Tony Martin situation, he was definately 'in the wrong' when he shot someone running away. If the criminal had been running towards him then he'd most probably had 'got off'. However people feel sympathy due to the fact that he was constantly being robbed on a weekly basis, and though he knew who the criminals were, the police couldn't help.
It's a dangerous thing to let anger build up over such a long period, and he probably felt vulnerable & helpless. Since he had a gun, -I'm gueessing he was licenced- then the police knew and should have worked out in advance that if the situation continued, a man pushed to desperation might actually use the weapon when the opportunity arised.
Tony Martin let his anger get the better of his judgement and he deserved jail time. However I have more sympathy for the Tony than the deceased criminal.
