I think the US equivalent is Projects.
But in the UK they're not all apartments or tower blocks, a lot of the older ones are single or semi-detached houses.

So I take it that it's public housing but not low income housing becuase you say that it's for workers. Am I right?

Here in Chicago we have a variety of "local government" ran housing projects from "tower blocks" (we call them "high rise") to what we call "row houses" which were two-story family homes usually flat roofed and connected like townhomes. The high rises were originally for government assisted or we say on the street "public aid" families headed by women (no men!) and the row houses were built for families who's men was returning from the war. They ALL wound up being for low-income families who worked to public aid recipients. Here are some examples of them. I had the pleasure of living in the high rises when I was a baby to a toddler. They looked like the red ones exept they were beige bricked. Hi Jaxon,
The bottom three photos could be those of a council blocks in England which we call "the flats" or "council estates."

Yeah! I thought those would be your so-called "tower blocks" but thanx for the comeback. Yeah these was where the poor blacks stayed including me for a short time when I was born. I was once told by an old man I knew back in '86 while I was visiting him in one of the buildings that it reminded him of being locked up in the penitentiary. If you looked closely at them you'll notice fencing from top to bottom. They put it up in the '70s because people were throwing objects and other people from them. I also heard it being called the "Concrete Reservation" back in the '70s as well. (Syl Johnson made a song out of it called Concrete Reservation if you're old school. Fellow Chicagoan he is). Just about all of these buildings are torn down now. The one I was living in as a baby was the last one to go last year or early this year. Those family homes are being renovated for mixed income housing.(middle to low income people)

Maybe I was a bit harsh on Del Boy! , but there can be no worse sight than The look on Edmunds face as he picks his pay check up for being a complete twat!

I must have missed that part of the show Lizard, so what box does Edmunds open then to win that jackpot????
