just got back from a couple of weeks at the world cup and i've gotta say wot a fantastic welcome we had, they bent over backwards to help out when needed and made us feel like they were actually happy to see us out there.
I think maybe the fact that there wasn't a single spot of bother that we saw may have helped, sitting in bars having a beer with all fans from Italians to Dutch to Mexicans made it a real party atmosphere.
It did make us think if this was held over here would we as a nation be as friendly - quick example, we got lost one day and stopped to ask a local, we were struggling to work out the directions so she jumped in her car, told us to follow and took us there herself - not many single women would do that to a group of six blokes !thumbsup!
ps cheers flat eric for the recommendations, found the cake hotel, couldn't walk for two days afterwards! !drink!

german people
we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester
Re: german people
My experience of German folk is 100% positive, from meeting German students in Glasgow who choose to follow Partick Thistle, to meeting German's on holiday always friendly, all speak good English well compared to my German and the only nationality that steal sun beds by the pool in my experience is English chavs.

Re: german people
Sorry, I'm German but can't follow your argumentation at all.
These guys are definetly no prisoners of war and you know that.
Maybe they were provoked by german fans but this is not the way
to behave in a foreign country regardless of which nationality.
So if they ask for trouble they have to bear the consequences in
Germany as well as in Britain.
But you can be sure that german holligans will be punished the same way.
During the clashes after the match England - Sweden In Cologne 137 persons
have been arrested. Just 26 of them were British, but 97 were Germans.
And we are very sensible for our own 'pissheads' always remembering their
appearance in France 1998 when they made Daniel Nivelle a cripple.
But don't you think it's time to overcome your prejudices? !wink!
Nevertheless I wish you a succesful match today!

Re: german people
Good points, egal and Keith. Some people are too stuck in the past. Time to move on and enjoy the footie. Have to admit the Germans looked pretty good against Sweden.
