I missed this.

However if they are going on about the seemingly the entire magazine racks loaded with lads mags, while I love porn, I actually sympathise with that view.

What a hypocrite I am!

Claire Curtis-Thomas MP and her Regulation of Sale and Display of Sexually Explicit Material Bill

"Whilst I am not advocating the censorship and prohibition of such literature for adults, there must be safeguards in place to protect minors from this obscene material.

Playboy is tame by comparison - it has some photographs of women in the nude, they are beautifully shot, they don't demean or objectify women, they are quite glamorous in their own way and there are articles about safe sex. But when you get to the lads' mags, which are on sale next to the Beano and the Dandy, you are in the land of hardcore porn."

And don't forget to have a look here

Nutters the lot of them - I mean have they actually read any Women's magazines lately? Cosmo for example.

Yeah but let's be honest, the covers are not anything like as raunchy as the lads/porn mags. I'm in favour of the sale of porn (obviously) but can understand those that don't want it so much in yer face.

I think Fred's opinion is reasonable here.

Like I said I like porn...put it this way those who think this is all ok (ladmags lining the shelves, and not just the top shelf).
If you had an eight year old son would you like this stuff staring him in the face at the newsagent?
Your daughter (whatever age)
Your mother or grandmother?

I love porn, but there's a time and a place for it, I say.

They have probably seen worse on the internet, late night C4 or Five, from Spam in thier inbox.........

Sorry but I don't buy the 'it causes harm' argument - in fact AFAIK there is not one shred of evidence to support it.

And let's be honest here you don't want an eight year old seeing this stuff in a newsagents? Then be a responsible parent and go elsewhere where is isn't a problem. Censorship should start with personal responsibility not the State.

It is actually offensive to the principle of freedom of expression, without which there would be no campaign in the first place!!! Take these principles away and welcome to a 'Nanny State'.

Is there not more important things in Claire Curtis-Thomas' constituency that she should be doing than haping on about this? Should it not be a community action and not a national one?
