Re: photos - some good points made but I think I agree with Sam Slater on this one - it all comes down to the context in how they are used.

I don't understand the West's queasyness about seeing dead bodies and death in general. We are insulated from it all. We don't want to talk about it or see it. Maybe if we were exposed to it more it would do us good.

It's good to be reminded of the horrors of death every once in a while (a reminder if you like), but more dead people splashed across the news will give the opposite affect. People will become used to the pictures, they'll lose they're 'shock' factor and dead bodies -in peices- will give the same affect as they do across the arab world, (a shrug of the shoulders).

I'm with you Jock. If something happens, then people should be able to see it. We Brits have forgotten what it's like to be embroiled in a war. At least we should be taught what pain gets inflicted, by us and others, where war does happen.

But the generals and politicians would rather we didn't know - we may stop backing our soldiers.
