Bush/Blair overheard

Post by strictlybroadband »

A private conversation between Bush and Blair at the G8 summit was picked up by a mike that should have been switched off. Today's Guardian has a transcript with explanations, and it's embarrassing for Britain. Blair's asking Bush permission to fly to the Middle East and lay some groundwork for Condi, if and when she finally decided to turn up.

Looking back over the past 60 years of British history, at exactly what moment did we become a client state of the US Empire?

Dunno... America was a nice place in those days, with a stated opposition to imperialism. We've had US troops on our soil ever since 1942, not to mention a truly massive US "embassy" in London. I'd say the switch came when WWII finished but the military bases remained. The French got fed up and asked them to leave in the 60s, but we Brits just LOVE being screwed by the Yanks.
