J'Acquse!!!

Post by Jacques »

I Jacques of BGAFD and of sound mind (allegedly) accuse the EU of unneccessary animal testing.

The European Union will be attempting to push through a new ruling called the Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH). While this plan holds some merits, it also contains a ruling to force cosmetic manufacturers to test chemicals on animals. Something that has been banned in the UK since 1998.

Many leading scientists feel the most effective way to test chemicals today is through computer simulation and not through animal testing at all. Animal testing is no longer necessary or effective enough to warrant such cruel procedures.

The biggest reason it continues is due to the many established lab animal farms that breed animals purely for testing purposes, and the backhanders the governments receive to maintain these lucrative businesses.

You can read more and help put a stop to this new ruling here:

Thank you for reading.

Cosmetics and thier associated ingredients, it's unnecessary. If The Body Shop and lush can not do it then why not Loreal (who now own The Body Shop), Elida Gibbs et al?

At the end of the day I am not telling anyone what to do or believe, just read and do whatever you feel is right.

I agree with you on the cosmetic front, suffering for vanity is unacceptable

I think some of this new law will end up as grey areas as a lot of the chemicals involved will have a cross over function between cosmetics and industry which i'm sure some of the more extreme animal rights terrorists will twist and use

quick example, isothiazolone is commonly used in industry as a biocide, but this chemical is also added to shampoo such as head and shoulders. So is this product being tested under the industrial use or the cosmetic use? i dunno how this is going to ultimately work but it is already making a lot of extra work for industry to get products in line with new legislation when most of the testing work is already done

we live in an over regulated world
