Top Of The Pops seemed to be going downhill for a long time, was about time it was put of it's misery.

As soon as pans people went I said it would never last.......!happy!

They kept playing music from decades ago on it, the other day they chopped the shakira Hips don't lie one and played completely an old record from 10 years ago.....daft. Pleased that Shakira was the last totp number 1.

The onset of all the music videoes stations on satellite was the death nell......After all why wait a week for totp when you could see the same thing 24/7.

And a dogs dinner of an effort to round it all off.

The sad and tired figure of Sir Jim spoke volumes -sad decay
Quite painful watching
Which is also why I can't watch dear old Brucie still hoofing his toupe around any more.

Anyhow, just as well Jools Holland has kept me going over the last 10 or so years.

Interesting.I hadn't realised they'd tried to mix the old and the new.
Sounds like a desperate kitchen sink job

The only credible bit of the franchise is TOTP2 .
And they've made the right decision to reinstate it and kill of the parent.

The good ol' BBC has actually very little footage of 60's TOTP. There are a handful of performance from July 65, and in full shows only Boxing day 67, 27/2/68, 6/6/68 (With Mute links) & 15/2/69 remain in the archives. There are only a few shows from 70-75 that weren't wiped as well.
In all fairness, it was a good programme until 1985, and since has been sporadically great (the Ric Blaxill years 94-97) and sometimes bloody awful (the abysmal late 91 revamp anyone?), but since it was moved to BBC2 it had become a pretty good music programme once again.
They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Sad to see it go, as the idea was always a good one, but they'll be looking at the four million plus viewing figure for the final show and stroking their chins, methinks.

Phoenix from the ashes, perhaps. It's worked elsewhere, namely with Dr Who.

On similar ground, I've heard several rumours that Eastenders is getting the chop too.
