I know that warren! It's never usually a problem if the noun ends in a consonant, like, "I went to john's house", and the alternative, "I went to Johns".

But when it comes to nouns ending in vowels, then when I'm typing fast I sometimes add an apostrophe.

Here's an example of one I sometimes miiss:

"The Israelis are occupying the West bank.",

is sometimes typed,

"The Israeli's are occupying the West Bank."

'Israelis' just looks wrong to me, even though it's right.
It's such a common mistake that even occurs, on a regular basis, in shops and in magazines.
It's correct to use either Cocker's Butcher's, as well as Cocker's Butchers, according to the Oxford English Dictionary.

Maybe that's why you see it in shops? (e.g)

!laugh! Oh yeah, silly me! It's still indicating the possessive case, even though the possession isn't in the statement. !doh!

'Israelis' still looks daft though.

You may be right there Sam but I was in a clothes shop the other day and I saw a sign saying: Ladie's Trouser's half price!!!

Another one I saw: There will be no refund on DVD's CD's and Video's unless faulty.
