No news on UK prices but the US press release reads:
"The XH A1 model will be available in late October for an estimated selling price of $3,999*, while the XH G1 model adds HD-SDI output with embedded audio and timecode; Genlock synchronization and Timecode In/Out and will be available in mid-November for an estimated selling price of $6,999*."

The way the world is at present,I'm not sure there's much of it I'd like to see in sharper focus.
And as far as my adult viewing goes,it's always all about what the girl puts into it rather than the quality of the image.
A dodgy performance is always going to be a dodgy performance.
Good news for cosmetic surgeons though as girls get to see yet more minor blemishes to work themselves into a lather over !

Yeah, that looks nifty; I?ve got an older Cannon myself. But what about the Panasonic HVX 2000 and it?s solid state P2 video capture format?
There are some people who say HDV is not true HD, but a kind of HD lite. This is because it utilizes a highly compressed (MPEG 2 compression) codec and records video at 25 Mbps. But Panasonic?s new HVX200 records at 100 Mbps ? a much wider bandwidth. I recently saw some footage shot on a Sony HDV cam and I was less than gob smacked. It just looked liked good DV footage. I wouldn?t have know the difference if it hadn?t been pointed out to me.

There's a world of difference between HDV and DVCPROHD. As well as the difference between 25Mb/s & 100Mb/s, one is discrete frames, the other is long GOP - when that goes wrong, you're fucked over 12-15 frames. Also Canon's 24F is not real progressive.
The HVX2000 is great but storage will be a issue until the cost of the cards comes way down. External drives like Firestore are still way too unreliable - battery & connector issues.

Very interesting information, guys. Must say that I'm a victim of brand allegiance having been so pleased with my Canons over the last five years but you've opened my eyes.
Fred, what's "long GOP" please?

Re: new Canon HD camcorders
GOP = Groups of Pictures, a way of reducing bandwidth. A way of squeezing a quart into a pint pot, as it were...
