After today's failed appeal by the Government, please be assured that if you're an Afghan hijacker or from anywhere else, the British courts will afford you a warm welcome.
So come one,come all.
(As if you needed that ruling as confirmation)
Pathetic.
Afghan hijackers
Re: Afghan hijackers
It's a common device in thriller movies (e.g. The Bourne Identity, Three Days Of The Condor) to have the hero hijack a passing stranger's car and hold them at gunpoint in order to escape from the baddies. They then go on to save the world or something. What if it got to the end of the film and the titles went up and then an extra scene came on showing the hero being sent down for ten years for hijacking and threatening death with a dangerous weapon?
What I mean is, these Afghanis didn't hijack the plane in order to fly it into a skyscraper, or so they could kill innocent passengers and crew unless their demands were met (though that was initially claimed apparently). They did it so they could escape persecution and reach freedom. Would you not do the same if you lived under a regime like that?
But I guess you don't have that sort of problem in Walmington-upon-Sea.
Pathetic.

So don't tell me what your saying is they got on the plane and asked the pilot ever so nicely to take them to the UK and he been such an amiable chap said OK yes lads?
BOLLOCKS springs to mind but on my next flight to France I'll try it I've always fancied Jamaica if I can get there just by asking the pilot to take me, even if my plane and all the other passengers is supposed to be going somewhere else, it could be worth giving it a go, I am always up for a way of getting things for nowt.

Re: Afghan hijackers
Fred.
So there's justifiable hijacking and presumably you also believe that everyone who claims they're victims are telling the truth ?
And everyone who's starving should come over for a free meal and the NHS should treat anyone who can't get treatment in their own country ?
I mean,let's be even-handed here.
It's very easy for people like you to make wonderfully libertarian comments embracing your fellow man.
And it all sounds great I grant you.
But perhaps you should get out of your ivory tower and see some of the social problems that your armchaiir altruism actually causes.
Although doubtless your interest disappears when the realities kick-in.

Re: Afghan hijackers
Fred,
How can you compare a real life hijacking -where pilots think they can be killed any minute- to Hollywood movies?
In Hollywood movies, the snipers never miss, and the police always follow the 'right man' into the tube station................err........oh yeah! Thats why people were so upset about the Menezes killing!.....It was because it 'didn't go down' like a Hollywood blockbuster!.......So all we need is Bruce Willis to join the Anti-Terrorism Unit and everything will be 'hunky-dorey'....
Jeeez..

Re: Afghan hijackers
a) Andypandy - they *hijacked* the plane and were punished for it. I didn't suggest otherwise, nor did the Afghans. Get a grip of the facts before you post.
b) Todger: thanks so much for the lecture, chum, your armchair has obviously seen a lot of dangerous "action"in its time. Clearly you have plenty knowledge of what the Taliban regime was like, dare say you have read Ahmed Rashid's book on the subject. Yeah, right. But I guess for you those who fled from Germany at the beginning of World War II would have been "pretending" as well.
Whingeing and whining from the safety of the Home Counties. 2/10 for effort.

Re: Afghan hijackers
Sam - I didn't suggest it was "like the movies", I was attempting to put another perspective on what they did to throw a little light on the motivation behind it for those here unable or unwilling to abandon their safe little assumptions.
In fact the main comparison I made was with the murderous hijackers on 9/11.

Re: Afghan hijackers
a a get the name correct
b hijacking is a form of terror and it doesn't matter one single bit what or why the hijackets did it.
The only people that matter are the passengers and crew who should have been on the plane.
With regards to getting a grip. Get an atlas and you'll see that there are a lot of countries between Afganistan and the UK. Why didn't they choose any of the others?
I'd suggest its because if they did they'd be sent back or still be inside now doing the proper punishment you claim they did.
