Huntsman found Guilty. Good!

Post by SID THE CYNIC »

When will the hunting fraternity accept that their 'sport' is no longer legal. (whether you agree with the way the 'new' labout govt passed the legislation is another matter)

Using 'tradition', 'way of life' ' right' etc as an argument just doesn't work. It's now against the law to hunt in some circumstances with dogs. The silly red coat brigade after a good long chase for the fun is no more.

Stop complaining about it. Accept it. Tough.

Yes vote Tory. Yes I live in the country. Yes I'm fed up with the arrogance of the local hunt.

Maybe when people stop smoking cannabis?

Laws are just words on paper. If enough people think the law is wrong and disregard it, then it's a bad law.

Actually it seems this huntsman was trying to comply with the law, inasmuch as he was using two dogs to flush out a fox so that it could be shot. Because the fox was not shot quickly enough (in their opinion), the magistrates found him guilty. I think he will appeal.

I'm not comparing hunting to cannabis smoking as activities, I'm making the point that people obey the laws they agree with. Politicians can outlaw whatever they like, in between getting rent boys to shit on them, but that does not mean people will obey laws they consider unjust or unfair. Anyone remember the poll tax riots? It made the politicos think.

Bottom line on fox hunting: the law is stupid, hunts are trying to comply with the letter of the law, and foxes are still being killed because they are an agricultural pest. You may not like huntsmen, they may indeed not like you. In a tolerant country we would agree to differ, not attempt to outlaw each other. The parallels to our laws on porn are, I hope, too obvious to have to dwell on.

>The bottom line is that hunting foxes with dogs is illegal

No it's not: it is legal to flush out a fox using two dogs, to be shot. That is what this huntsman says he was trying to do, and which will no doubt form the basis of his appeal. Unless you think magistrates can do no wrong?

So where in the news reports does it say he was using only two dogs?
