Funny how throughout history, most wars have been caused by religion - and all the combatants have claimed to have God on their side.

Just for example, in the time of the Crusades the European Christians believed that God was sending them on their "holy mission" to conquer the Levant in the name of Christianity.

While on the opposing side, the Saracens were equally convinced that God was telling them to keep those Christian "infidels" out.

It's the same today: Blair & Dubya are both "committed Christians" who claim a direct line to The Man Upstairs, who they say gives them their instructions.

And yet the anti-Western Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere claim that God is on THEIR side AGAINST the West!

If there is indeed a God, we's probably looking down right now, scratching his head, rolling his eyes and thinking "what a complete bunch of tossers they ALL are".

If there is a God, and he created us, then he should be fired.

Religion knows not what it does, and has no choice; for it is merely scripture and belief. Only man knows what he does, and the ability to choose. Only man can guess, or predict the consequences of his choices.

Wars are fought by men for money, power, land or religion, yet none of these things have a conscience, a choice, or ambition. Men need to stop blaming inanimate things for what other men choose to do. We are to blame, not what we fight over.

But then isn't that what free-will is all about. We are permitted by 'God' to make our own mistakes.

Sam,

I am not intolerant of religion as long as it does not interfere with my freedoms. Religion should be practised by adults in private.

You digress fron the debate but I am not tolerant of "drugs" the usage of the word isa gross generalisation. By "drugs" you obviously mean illegal substances. It seems that illegal is synonymous with wrong in your eyes?
Prohibition only creates crime and corruption. The function of the state should be to educate as to the effects on the body of all substances not to treat adults like children.

What I believe in is the sovereignty of the body and the right of everyone of us to consume all the flora on Earth. I am a libertarian who believes in live and let live.

"Tony Blair has been criticised for taking holy communion in the Roman Catholic Church when he is Church of England."

Can he actually do that? I thought you have to be a Roman Catholic. Maybe he secretly is?

The nature and form of God or gods is beyond the understanding of man.
I have an open mind on the matter.

Sam,

Exactly, man cannot cite God as a reason for his actions.
