And on BBC4 last night in Gimme Shelter. Good film if on a very depressing theme of the worst rock festival ever. Even Keith looked as scared as Keith can get.

One redeeming grace of the whole thing was a cameraman was one George Lucas...yes, I believe his debut in commercial cinema.

I first saw the Stones in a small club called "The Country Club," in Belsize Park London, Feb 1964... OUCH.. Then I caught the start of Hyde Park show in 1969 before having to leave as I was going out with my g/fs parents that night, and was under penalty of death if I was late :)

I'm almost as old as them any way :(

I thought the whole film was electrifying. Quite clearly the directors told the camera people early on that what was happening behind, in front of and around the acts was more important than the performances. There was one long shot of an out of focus Jagger with a clearly psychotic acid casualty behind him, who even worried the Hells Angel next to him who chucked the bloke off stage. The ever present feeling of barely controlled violence was palpable. Fantastic film.

Not only Lucas went on to bigger things, Joan Churchill is Nic Broomfields long time documentary DoP, and several other operators are now big in TV and features.

Sorry to disagree but they are now a bit of a joke, their playing was weak and Jagger is a pastiche of his former self. Count your money lads and retire!

I heard this a.m. on local radio that The Stones are slated to play Churchill Downs in Kentucky on 9/21. Pretty big venue. They will set up on the infield.
