airport treatment

Post by andy at handiwork »

Irrespective of the necessity for extra security at present, it could be argued that the way we are treated at airports, screened, inspected, corralled, cowed, forced to prove our identity to various officials, expected to be docile consumers, and be unquestioning of authority, is how governments would like to treat us at all times.

TOTALLY agree!!! Bloody madness this treatment at the airport with the finger of suspicion pointed at EVERYONE.
I'm married with a couple of young kids and when we returned from a short trip to Northern Ireland last Sunday, ALL of our hand luggage was examined with a fine tooth comb - including nappies (unused!!!) and my youngest child's hearing aids kit.
Me and the missus felt dreadful - and that was only the small provincial airport at Derry.
I just hope when we go on holiday later this year this madness has all calmed down and the bloody stupid clear plastic bags are done away with.
Thanks, Tony and Dubya, you're doing a great job for world peace!!!

Not as bloody deadful as you would feel if the plane you were travelling on got blown to fuck over the Irish Sea! Why the fuck are we such a nation of whingers and little fucking girls? OK so it adds an extra few hours onto your journey - hardly the end of the world, is it?

The extremists must be pissing themselves laughing when they see posts and comments like this and realise they are getting what they want with the very people they are trying to kill turning on the authorities for trying to protect them!

If you care to read what I wrote....'Irrespective of the necessity of the security arrangements..etc' you will see I was not turning on the authorities, I was merely stating that the way we have now to behave at airports is how governments the world over would like to treat us the rest of the time.
As for extremists reading posts like mine, I would like to think that if they were on this forum, it might distract them from their chosen path. Sadly their abhorance of all things 'flesh' is part of their problem.

I'm dreadfully sorry for complaining about the situation at our airports. I must remember to keep my British upper lip stiff at all times and never say boo to a goose.
I wonder if this present madness at check-in re. cabin baggage is the case in airports everywhere else in the world? Or does it just happen to be the (ahem) "Coalition" countries of the US of UK?
Look, this short-term reaction is NOT getting to the root of the problem... that is, WHY so many young Muslims feel so aggrieved about the West's treatment towards their fellow Muslims in other parts of the world.
God knows I'm not in any way condoning their terrorist methods but history shows time and again that desperate people will resort to desperate measures to achieve their goal of highlighting their plight.
The whole situation is bloody awful with oil at the root of all the trouble and Dubya's quest for complete dominance in the Middle East. Iraq has been a bloody shambles and with rumours of Iran next on his agenda the future certainly looks dreadful.
I'm VERY fearful for my family's safety - but not at the cost of our freedom, for example, at airports. We must show some common sense - otherwise the terrorists really WILL have won the day. Will they start checking bags on the Tube again as was mooted after 7/7?
I just hope Tony's enjoying his holiday in the Caribbean, the bastard!!!

First check I'm replying to the right part of the thread. (see above in the previous replies)

I agree with much of what you say. Its also important to say that understanding your opponent is not the same as condoning his actions.
However I slightly disagree about the motives of Britsh Muslims. Though history does show that aggreived people reach for extreme measures, I dont really see what young British Muslim men have to feel so aggrieved about. If they want to live under Sharia Law, and I never thought I'd hear myself saying this, why dont they live under it in a country of their choice that practices it? And leave the rest of us black, brown, yellow, pink, Yewish, Islamic, Buddist, Christian, and atheist (anybody left out?) folk to make the best of what is still a pretty decent place to live.
