Saw an ad today for the Nicolas Cage remake. Its set off the US coast- quelle surprise- and Cage plays a tough, God -fearing cop who goes in search of a missing girl to an island where all is not what it seemszzzzzzzz.

Can't beat the original....and I wonder what happens at the end?

Yet more evidence that there are no ideas left in Hollywood. When asked why he made less movies now than in the past Speilberg's answer was

"There are no scripts offered that are any good, all the good writers are working for TV. So all we will see in a few years is remakes of other films and comic strips"

He said that 4 years ago!!

I've never understood what all the fuss was about .
It just looks and feels like a typical low budget early 70's Brit Pic

-The dated fashions - what did Christopher Lee look like lol !
-Dollops of gratuitous nudity .(Ok,no bad thing)
-Edward Woodward's accent.
etc etc.......

It was as an embarassing look at the "free-love",hippie times as that cringeworthy scene in Carry On Camping (remember the gig in the adjoing field ?)

But maybe I've never forgiven it since I found out that the famous Britt Ekland nude scene was actually done by a stand-in.

...And just to follow on from what NeilUK has said and that is we have had nothing but remakes and more remakes over the last 4 or 5 years. I see The 39 Steps has been remade again. How many times has that one been remade for Christ's sake?

As for these films being made from hit TV shows of the 60s, 70s and 80s, why bother? They only end up bombing at the box office. just look at the Avengers and The Saint - dreadful films. For me, only Mission:Impossible has been any good.

I now what you mean about the best writers being on TV...I've found myself buying more dvds of tv shows than of movies as of the last 2 years and it had me worried.

Rome, 24, Lost and The Shield are my current raves....Well impressed with Rome
