When Adolph Hitler came to power one of the laws the NSADP[National Socialist Workers Party of Germany] passed was banning foxhunting. Hitler was also a strict vegetarian.

Mussolini was vegetarian too but I think that was more down to his ulcer than his beliefs.

Mike, you are correct in saying that foxhunting was banned by the German government when Hitler was Chancellor, but this legislation was all the brainchild of Hermann Goering. Goering produced legislation which contained huge steps forward in wild animal welfare. To get a licence to hunt the potential hunter had to prove his compotence with whatever weapon he was using, prove an ability to humanely dispatch a wounded animal and always be accompanied by a fully trained retriever dog. Goering had a passion for hunting and was certainly no bunny hugger. Any future British government looking to amend our present chaotic wildlife protection laws would do well to look at this German legislation, which seem to me to protect the rights of genuine hunters whilst preventing animal suffering because of incompetence.

David that's very true.....guess what? I hold a German Jagdschein & Wafenbesitz Karte. The compulsory insurance is excellent. It works well in a country the size of Germany split into the various Lander. It does provide an excellent wildlife monitoring service for population disease etc. It does limit hunting to the wealhy although to run successfully qualified guest Jaegers are vital.
Perhaps what might not go down as well in this country is the quarry list which does include most Raptors, Badgers & Seals! Also Cats found more than 100m from a private dwelling are fair game. Rabies & Fox bandworm is common. Did you also know that poaching is very uncommon & perilous.......all hunters may & do carry sidearms.....not just to dispatch wounded animals!

Well mart, it cuts both ways.

I consider a lot of what you write to be a complete load of old fanny as well.

As for me being a "right-winger" well yes I do hold some views that could be considered right(ish) wing. But on the other hand my opinions are peppered with fair old doses of liberalism too, and I'd even go as far as to say that Socialist thinking has its merits in some areas as well - at least in theory.

That's because I don't believe that any party or ideology has all the answers (and one reason why I've only ever voted once in my entire life, because most politicians of whatever political hue are a bunch of arrogant, blinkered, dogmatic cunts whose main aim is simply to line their own pockets rather than work for the good of all like they're supposed to).

So stick around Old Son because who knows, a topic might one day spring up here that we both actually agree on.
