WTF is up with this shit, everytime I try to get a DVD of a Film I'm after, or try looking online for a download of same said film, or a preview of it, it is ALWAYS in fucking Widescreen format ?
99.99% of the entire population in the UK has widescreen TV's/Computer Monitors, to what is this crap all about?
Even my local newsagent, who sells cheap DVD's (ex-hired copies), are all in Widescreen format.
This is starting to piss me off, I might end up staying with VHS Video Tapes, if all I can ever get is fucking Widescreen CRAP....

Most modern TV sold nowadays are widescreen, particularly the larger ones.
Go into any shop (Comet etc) and I bet most are widescreen.
I doubt if it is 99.99% of TVs, maybe 70% or less?
And even if a computer monitor is not widescreen you can still watch it in widescreen.
Anyway, ALL films are made in widescreen (16:9 etc), it is only TVs that were 4:3. Why not see a film as the director intended.
I was sick to deatch of seeing a film which was made in 16:9 and you lost half the image on a 4:3 TV.
Two characters were talking to each other, and you could only see part of each of them, or you could see one of them and not the other.
Films like Lawrence of Arabia are wasted on a 4:3 TV.
Go into any shop (Comet etc) and I bet most are widescreen.

Yes, I know that, but still, it makes for poor viewing when half your screen is black & onthe the centre section is showing a picture.

Yes, I know that, I did a Video Course in the mid 90's. But if your TV is only 4:3, then trying to watch a 16:9 is rediculous.

You still get that on SKY Digital, certain channels/programmes I have to quickly edit the video output settings to 16:9 or 4:3 or even 4:3L/W each time the subsequant programme's format changes.

Yeah, annoying, at least watching 16:9 on a 4:3 you don't lose any picture, its just small.

Lawrence of Arabia is ONLY viewable in a cinema for perfect viewing, that's one epic film. !grin!

I have a 4:3 telly and set it to 16:9 crop. Perfect as it gives teh best of both worlds. As for having a crop of black top and bottom what is your problem? Widescreen is a nicer format than 4:3 and (pretty much) everything is shot 16:9 nowadays (although SKy still like some stuff delivered 4:3).
As for Lawrence of Arabia. That is wider than 16:9, to see it properly it will have an even bigger crop.

With a black top & bottom, you dont get full-screen. Yes, widescreen is good... on a widescreen telly, or in a cinema.
