From what I understand cash fares are going to increase, but oyster fares will remain the same.

What took you so long getting an oyster card ? had mine for almost 2 years they're great !thumbsup!

The cash fares are going up to encourage people to buy Oyster cards.

Livingstone came to office determined to sort out the mess of transport in London. He's done a fantastic job. London's transport is far better than it was a few years ago thanks to him - a lot of other world cities are watching and learning from us.

BTW, Livingstone lives near me and I regularly see him catching the tube to work: the man has principles and stands by them - I wish we could say that about more British politicians.

Hi Ken,

In the Fifties breakdowns were unheard of on the Tube and the fares relatively cheap. Railtrack was looked after by the same people who keep the Tube going night and day.

It was owned by the people until the government thought of a good wheeze. Privatisation. Sell off a nationalised company to the private sector in order to exploit the people. That is why we have the dearest public transport in Europe.
