The senior police officer in charge at the time of the De Menezes killing in Stockwell has been promoted, i think this is a bit thoughtless so soon after the incident.

Well that's all right then. Apparently, Harold Shipman was a pretty good GP too, if you discount his unfortunate habit.

Re: De Menezes killing , police promotion
Hardly an appropriate comparison.
Re: De Menezes killing , police promotion
Didn't know it was the senior policeman who actually shot De Menezes, thought it was an unidentified policeman. It must have been the senior policeman by the furore caused by his promotion or are we still in the "blame everyone" mode for the incident.
De Menezes was thought to be a terrorist, that is why he was shot, by a policeman who believed his actions would save lives. As was written here at the time, you're damned if you do nothing and damned if you do, usually by people who will never have to make a life or death decision in their lifetime.
As an aside, I've no doubt we are still putting up his whole family at our expense while the "human rights" brigade make a fortune trying to screw everyone concerned.

Are you serious ?
What if it was your son that was executed at point blank range, shot seven times in the head, his only crime being he was trying to catch the tube.
I think his family have every right to be here at our expense , if it was my son i wouldn't rest till i seen justice done.

Re: De Menezes killing , police promotion
The officer who has been promoted is Cressida Dick, from Commander to Deputy Assistant Commissioner. This quite clearly implies that the inquiry into the shooting found nothing wrong with her handling of the situation on the day.

She was in charge at the time but was cleared at an inquiry and is now promoted, no other person is held responsible for the killing of an innocent man, well thats allright then everyone lives happy ever after, except De Menezes and his family.
