You live in London which has trains, buses and The Tube. Try living in a rural county with shit roads, 1 bus a day and not a train insight since Dr Beeching. Driving is a necessity where I live.

Saying that I can see why people are driving less in London, Ayatollah Ken and his congestion charge punishes the poor man and the rich can afford to pay it.

The car isn't dead yet, there are some superb looking meodels due to break cover in the next few months.

I live in Mid Kent and i can get a cheap day return into London for just under ?10.00 or just over ?15.00 with the underground so it works out cheaper than driving in taking in to account the congestion and parking charges.
As a kid i can remember the smogs that use to come down in London turning day into night and causing the premature deaths of thousands of people there was outcry when they decided to turn the Smoke into a smokeless zone but i doubt that anyone would wish to go back how it was, the thing was in those days you could see the pollution but vehicle emmissions are not always as evident and i think the Mayor has got it about right.

I used to commute 100 miles a day - I think that's what put me off driving. I'm sure my health is better for not having to drive every day.

Mucho,

I use London Transport all the time and gave my car away in 1986. I sat back and let the bus-driver take the strain. Buses in London run twenty four hour seven. You wait a bit longer in the early hours of the morning but in the daytime they are plentiful. And of course there is the Tube up until Midnight to take you rapidly underground across London.

Get on your bike!!cool!

Mike.
